One. Learn Techniques for Your Age
When using eye makeup for mature women, seek and learn about information for eye makeup application for your age.
Younger women are amazing and very entertaining with their fancy eye makeup information but their style, products, and application are not always geared for mature women.
Seek out women (or men) who share makeup tips for makeup applications based on your age range.
Purchase products for the skin and eyes you have currently which changes over time. This alone will enhance your eye makeup look and make you feel better.
Two. Get some Brows / Extend the Brows Out
According to beauty editor Charla Krupp in her book How Not to Look Old, she says that “Nothing ages you like bushy, unkempt eyebrows…shapeless brows… tweezed-too-thin brows… drawn-non brows…gray brow hairs”
She does say to banish bulk; avoid silly shapes, add color and cope with grays or whites for a more youthful appearance.
As brow hairs turn gray and become sparse, consider getting them professionally shaped and colored or even tattooed (with a really, really good professional).
You can also color at home or use a semi-permanent eyebrow gel or brow powder.
Tip: Make sure you Do Your Brow Tails which is the part of the brow by the temples that is often the first to go and by doing so expands the look of your brows and eye area.

Three. Use a Magnification Mirror for More Precise Application
Magnification mirrors help because you can see and apply makeup precisely.
As we age, our eyesight diminishes, and applying eye makeup becomes challenging.
Being more precise with makeup is important with mature faces. We just cannot wear the sloppy look of a teenager.
With a good magnification mirror, we can apply makeup well, remove stray hairs even see areas we can improve upon.

Four. Always add a Primer to Your Eyelids Before Applying Shadow
A primer for your eyelids is similar to a primer for your face. Eyelid primers improve the texture which helps eye makeup go on smoother and last longer.
Eyelid primers also help keep eye shadows in place and prevent them from creasing and smearing. Relates back to the preciseness of makeup for mature skin.
You may not need to add a primer to your entire face but definitely add one for your eye makeup. It really helps!
I personally use and love and use both of these for eyelid primers.

and Thrive Causemetics Eye Lift 360° Waterproof Primer™
To apply: Use a small amount of primer and blend it over the lids from lash line to crease.
Five. Use a High-pigment Eye Pencil
A highly-pigmented eye pencil has concentrated color.
The higher the pigment, the more true and vivid the color will appear on the skin.
Eye pencils…
- Add shape and definition to eyes
- Should apply easily and not slip (too wet) OR drag (too dry)
- Pricewise Tip: go for the more pricey pencils for best results
- Application Tip: Pull lids taut (from the outer edge) while applying to get a smooth line; go from the outside towards the inner eye
However, there’s an exception: For deep-set hooded eyes, emphasizing the lower lash line with liner or lining the inner lower rim (also known as the waterline) can help give eyes a stronger shape.
Six. Contour the crease of your eyelid for bigger-looking eyes
Contouring the crease of your eyelid works on every eye type except deep-set lids because the crease is not visible.
Using an eyeshadow brush and a compact eye color, trace the hollow of the eye right above the crease using a taupe color (light to medium skin tone) or brown (darker skin tone).
Keep the contouring emphasis on the outer half of the eye and then blend the line with a brush to soften it and retrace it with a matching shade of powdered shadow.
Seven. Use Eyeshadow Quads
Truly, you only need 4 colors.
Some women do well with a variety of eye colors but to be safe — for makeup for mature women — give eyeshadow quads a try. They make your eyes look great.
Avoid trendy colors as they just don’t look great.
Adding sparkle with an eye brightener like this one from Thrive Causemetics is a smart way to go. The brightness adds a youthful look.

Eight. Use a Lash Curler and Black Mascara
Curled lashes open up the eyes.
Use a lash curler before applying Black Mascara [best for everyone].
- Clean your curler with rubbing alcohol before each use
- Curl the entire length of the lashes
- Hold for a few seconds with a gentle pressure then squeeze again

Nine. Consider lash extensions. . .
As we age, our lashes get lighter, thin out and often lose their curl.
Lash extensions can give your eyes a subtle lift, giving you a fuller more youthful look in the process.
You can get just a few lash sections done and don’t have to do the entire lash line for a more natural look.
Lash extensions do take some maintenance and upkeep can be pricey so it depends on your budget and time for this luxurious treat. Or, consider them only for special occasions.
